THE MOVEMENT THEATRE COMPANY
LET US MOVE YOU
Based out of Harlem, this Theatre Company produces and uplifts artist of color for over a decade. It is a company of actors, writers, producers and directors hungry to share the stories of their communities and cultures. They create an artistic social movement by developing and producing new work by artist of color. Engaging audiences in a rich theatrical dialogue, enlightening communities to the important issues affecting our world and empowers artists celebrate the many sides of their unique voices.
At the start of 2015, I was brought on to re-brand The Movement Theatre Company. The goal was to re-design the logo, website, and all marketing material in a way that better reflected the identity the producers had built over the years.
Since then I continue to be brought on a project-by-project base to concept and design for upcoming shows.
It was important for the new direction to be familiar but refreshed/updated. The client enjoyed its geometric shape and the orange color scheme. Below is the previous logo and how that would be applied to projects. Often the logo felt like a second thought and very disconnected from the impact feeling of that the company provides to its community of artists
OLD MARKETING MATERIAL
While keeping a geometric, statement piece in mind, I designed out-of-the-box or even out-of-the-circle-like thinking to express the future that is The Movement Theatre Company. As they are more than a theatre company they are a movement for forward-thinking spaces and creating doors as well as opening them to artists of color. As well as designing a sturdy structured presence within the logo. Leaning into the urban structure of Harlem where the company is based out of in New York City.
